National Historic Site – President Grant

Along with National Parks, there is also Historic Sites, Rivers, Beaches, Trails, Memorials and others.  Having the America the Beautiful pass allows us access to different venues where there is a fee.

While we were in St. Louis we found a Historic Site of Former President Ulysses S Grant.  White Haven, the historical site of Ulysses S Grants which commemorates his life as a general and president.  This is also the childhood home of his wife, Julia Dent Grant.

The home of the Grants was preserved for all to get a glimpse of his life before he became President.  Even though he is buried in New York, this was the place he called home and raised 3 children.  His In-Laws lived in the home as well.

There is a 22 minute movie of Grant’s life, a ranger led tour, and a self-guided tour of the home.  The buildings are original and the barn has been converted into a museum.  Definitely worth the stop. Admission is free and you can spend about 2 hours enjoying this piece of history.
